Additional €3 billion for Ukraine from Germany may be allocated by Friday - Merz

Friedrich Merz, the leader of the CDU party and a possible future German Chancellor, said that 3 billion euros of additional military aid to Ukraine could be allocated by Friday, March 21.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to DPA.
Merz made this statement on Tuesday, March 18, at a meeting of the CDU parliamentary group and its Bavarian "sister" party, the Christian Social Union, in Berlin.
According to him, the additional funding for Ukraine depends on a vote in the Bundestag, where MPs are considering a large-scale German spending plan, including easing the country's tight budget constraints.
The parties promoting the package have said they have enough support to pass it.
After the Bundestag, the bill still needs to be voted on in the Bundesrat (upper house of parliament), which is scheduled for Friday, March 21.
"If the plan is given the green light, assistance to Ukraine will be one of our first implemented initiatives," Merz added.
As a reminder, on March 18, the lower house of the German parliament, the Bundestag, approved a bill amending the Basic Law to ease debt restrictions. This should attract billions of euros of investment in defense and infrastructure, as well as unlock €3 billion in military aid to Ukraine.
