Trump orders declassification of "Crossfire Hurricane" case files on its ties to Russia

Trump

United States President Donald Trump has signed a decree requiring the immediate declassification of the "Crossfire Hurricane" investigation materials.

The relevant decree was published on the White House website, Censor.NET reports.

This investigation was initiated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) back in 2016 to find out whether there were any ties between Trump's campaign headquarters and Russia during the presidential election.

In the executive order, Trump stated that all investigation materials that do not contain personal information and are not protected by court orders or laws should be open to the public. However, declassified documents may be redacted if they contain information that is subject to protection.

According to the order, the US Attorney General must ensure that the public has access to declassified materials as soon as possible. Trump emphasised that the order does not apply to the protection of personal data or other materials that may be protected by laws or court orders.

The "Crossfire Hurricane" investigation was launched due to concerns that members of the Trump campaign may have had undeclared ties to Russian officials, which could have influenced the outcome of the election. The investigation was part of a broader process that has been accompanied by a number of other investigations and allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 US election.
