As neighbours, we know how Russia negotiates. We should not be naive, - Norwegian Foreign Minister Eide

Norwegian Foreign Minister Eide on talks with Russia

The Norwegian Foreign Ministry stressed that in negotiations with Russia it is extremely important to agree on "fine text" and details before "celebrating agreements".

According to Censor.NET, citing Ukrinform, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said this at a joint briefing with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha in Kyiv.

"We should not be naive. Norway is Russia's neighbour. We know them well enough and know how they negotiate. And it is extremely important to agree on the ‘fine text’ and details before anyone goes to celebrate the agreements. I think this was very clearly demonstrated yesterday in Riyadh. What seemed to be an agreement was not agreed upon because then a whole list of new demands came from Moscow," Eide said.

In addition, he welcomed the fact that talks about peace are taking place, but called for being extremely realistic and maintaining a strategic approach.

Eide added that he has been in extensive consultations with Ukraine, fully supporting it and agreeing with its red lines.

"There should be no compromise on Ukraine's sovereignty or its ability to make its own decisions, whether on the size of its armed forces or on its future alliances or membership in political clubs," he added.

As a reminder, today, 26 March, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide and Minister of Labour and Integration Tonje Brenna arrived in Kyiv on a visit.
