Lithuania does not see Russia’s readiness for concessions in war against Ukraine - Lithuanian Foreign Minister Budrys

Kęstutis Budris on peacekeepers in Ukraine

Lithuania does not see any prerequisites for a compromise on the part of Russia in the context of peace talks on the war in Ukraine and attempts to reach a truce.

This was stated by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, Censor.NET reports.

"We have not seen Russia agreeing to anything out of goodwill, and only through a mutually acceptable process when each side makes certain concessions. Russia is not that type of negotiator, nor is it that type of international player," Budrys emphasized.

He noted that Lithuania is not a neutral observer but fully supports Ukraine in its struggle.

"So when it comes to the Russians, we believe in the measures and the precedents that have worked before: firm military force, the use of economic restrictions, sanctions, and the use of frozen assets as leverage. And if this is the first time in history that Russia will behave differently, I will be very surprised," the minister said.

Budris also commented on the role of the United States in the negotiations, noting Washington's efforts to use diplomacy.

"We recognize the efforts of the Trump administration to maximize the use of diplomacy. We want them to be backed by tough diplomatic tools and levers against Russia when or if Putin does not show a desire to stop the aggression and agree to the terms of the truce," the Lithuanian Foreign Minister summarized.

According to him, Lithuania supports the US diplomatic initiatives but emphasizes that without tough pressure, we should not expect changes in the Kremlin's behavior.
