General Staff did not support draft law of Ministry of Defence on demobilisation of 108 thousand military - media

Back in January, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine prepared a draft law on demobilisation and rotation of military personnel during martial law. However, the document was not supported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
This was reported by "Ukrainska Pravda", citing the Ministry of Defence and sources in the Verkhovna Rada, Censor.NET reports.
The ministry explained that the implementation of the draft law would lead to the simultaneous dismissal of a large number of military personnel, which would significantly reduce the manning of combat units. According to parliamentary sources, 108,000 people may be demobilised, including 14,000 officers.
The Main Communications Department of the Armed Forces of Ukraine notes that the bill will be submitted to parliament only after the army has a sufficient number of soldiers to continue the war with Russia.
Draft law on demobilisation
On 11 April 2024, the Verkhovna Rada passed a law on mobilisation. It obliged the Ministry of Defence to develop a draft law on demobilisation within eight months.
By 18 December, the Ministry of Defence had to prepare a relevant draft law.
According to media reports, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has asked the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence to postpone until 18 March 2025 the deadline for drafting a bill on the conditions for demobilisation of military personnel during martial law.
