UN: Russian missile attack on Kryvyi Rih was deadliest for children in three years of war

Tom Fletcher, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs

The Russian missile strike on Kryvyi Rih on April 4 was the most deadly for children since the beginning of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine.

This was stated during a meeting of the UN Security Council by the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher, Censor.NET reports with reference to Ukrinform.

"The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Ukraine, which confirmed many victims, reported that this was the deadliest strike that harmed children since February 2022," the UN Under-Secretary-General said.

Fletcher emphasized that in recent weeks, drone attacks have continued, causing civilian casualties, as well as damage to residential buildings, schools, and playgrounds. The UN Under-Secretary-General added that, according to the Ukrainian authorities, more than 90 civilians were killed in the frontline regions last week alone.

In total, he said, OHCHR has officially confirmed the killing of at least 12,910 civilians, including 682 children, and the injury of nearly 30,700 people across Ukraine from February 24, 2022, to March 31, 2025. "The true toll is likely much higher," he added.

Fletcher called on the UN Security Council to make efforts to ensure that the current era of intensifying wars and confrontation is not remembered as an era of impunity and cruel indifference.
