Discussion on format of possible mission to Ukraine continues within Coalition of Willing – Kallas

Kallas on the Coalition of the Willing

The "Coalition of the Willing" is discussing the format of a possible mission, what each country can offer Ukraine.

According to Censor.NET, citing Interfax-Ukraine, this was reported by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas before the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing at NATO headquarters in Brussels on Thursday.

"The discussion is ongoing: it could be a monitoring mission, a deterrence mission, a peacekeeping mission, a security mission or a defense mission. There are different options. And it is directly related to whether we have peace," she said.

Kallas noted that countries are currently trying to figure out what each of them can do. They also need to understand what the EU mission should do.

So far, we have managed to keep the mandate and at the same time update the mission in line with Ukraine's needs. The Ukrainian side constantly provides feedback: this works, this doesn't, change this. And we can do that, and, of course, also discuss these issues," she added.

At the same time, according to Kallas, countries are trying to maintain support from the United States.

"It is in the United States' interest to have stability and peace in Europe, because what is happening in Ukraine and how this war will end affects other security regions, such as the Asia-Pacific. Therefore, it is also in their interests," she is convinced.
