This would be important signal - EU diplomats welcomed Merz’s statement on transfer of Taurus to Ukraine

EU diplomats react to Merz’s statement on the transfer of Taurus to Ukrain

A number of European top diplomats have responded positively to the statement by the likely next German Chancellor Friedrich Merz that he may send long-range Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine.

This is reported by the DPA news agency with reference to the comments of the foreign ministers at a meeting in Luxembourg on Monday, April 14, Censor.NET reports.

Thus, the head of EU diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, answering a question about the possibility of Germany sending Taurus missiles to Ukraine, said:

"Of course, each member state gives what it can give. But I think the message is very clear: we need to do more to ensure that Ukraine can defend itself and that civilians do not die."

In his turn, Dutch Foreign Minister Kaspar Veldkamp said that it is extremely important that Germany provides Ukraine with Taurus missiles.

"I think it would be a very important signal of where Europe stands in this situation," the diplomat said.

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski also commented on Merz's proposal, calling it "very good."

It is noted that among other topics, EU foreign ministers are discussing an initiative to provide Ukraine with additional artillery ammunition.

As a reminder, the likely future German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has stated that he has always been ready to support the transfer of Taurus missiles to Ukraine, provided that these supplies are agreed upon with Germany's European partners.
