Tymoshenko's jailers sentenced to three years in prison

The Kominternivskyi district court of Kharkiv has sentenced two former employees of the Kachanivska penal colony No. 54 (Kharkiv) to three years in prison for inflicting injuries on Yuliia Tymoshenko, the former prime minister, leader of the All-Ukrainian Union Batkivshchyna, back in 2012.

"According to court's decision, the physical violence against Tymoshenko was applied by two former employees of the colony: first deputy head of the colony Andrii Kovalenko, deputy head of the colony Andrii Paramei, and senior inspector of the colony Yevhen Zymohliad (the last person has left Ukraine and is a subject of separate criminal proceedings)," the statement reads.

As reported, Kovalenko has been sentenced to three years in prison with deprivation of the rank of lieutenant colonel of the internal service. After serving the term, he will be prohibited to work in the penal system during three years.

Paramei has got three years in prison with a suspended sentence of three years, since, according to the statement, the court accepted the arguments of Tymoshenko and her defense asking to alleviate the punishment. As stated, during Tymoshenko's staying at hospital, Paramei fully repented, apologized to her, and provided valuable information for the defense.
