"Every year, according to various estimates, 120-300 tons of amber are mined in Ukraine. The size of shadow market makes $200-300 million," the official said.
At the same time, she said, the illegal extraction of amber harms the environment.
"In the Zhytomyr region, the illegal production of amber resulted in 220 hectares of damaged soil, in the Volyn region - four hectares, in the Rivne region - 169 hectares," the deputy minister stated.
