"Poroshenko said my dismissal not agreed with him," - Sakvarelidze
Former Deputy Prosecutor General Davit Sakvarelidze says that his dismissal by Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin has not been agreed with President Petro Poroshenko.
He stated this at a briefing today, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainski Novyny."The president invited me today and said that this decision (to dismiss - Ed.) was not agreed with him," he said.
According to Sakvarelidze, his team managed to make a breakthrough in the system nevertheless.
"We wanted to prove that there was no room for inviolability, "diamond generals", and "diamond prosecutors" in the prosecution system. Contrary to the existing prosecutor's ethics, due to which I was dismissed, our team challenged the system - started to identify corrupt prosecutors at all levels regardless of the positions, relations, etc. Such an attack on me and our team is a signal that the ruling establishment does not actually need real reform. And it is a fact," Sakvarelidze said.
He also did not rule out that the attempts to put pressure on the members of his team would continue after his dismissal.
