72nd Mechanized Brigade's Commander Andrii Zhuk promoted to major posthumously

Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak has posthumously promoted Cpt Andrii Zhuk to the rank of major for courage and heroism.

Censor.NET reports citing the MoD's press service.

As previously reported, Andrii Zhuk was killed May 27 during an engagement with a recon and sabotage group of pro-Russian militants in the Donbas. Ukrainian soldiers were ambushed by terrorists.

Zhuk was a career military officer and served as a border guard until 2014. After hostilities broke out in country's east, he enrolled in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
