Artistic gymnast Oleh Verniaiev wins Ukraine’s first gold medal in Rio

The world champion, four-time European champion, two-time champion of the European Games, silver medalist of the Olympics-2016 Oleh Verniaiev has won first gold medal for Ukraine in the men’s parallel bars in Rio.

As reported by Censor.NET, the Ukrainian gymnast scored 16.041 points.

U.S. gymnast Danell Leyva got silver medal (15.900 points). Russian David Belyavskiy became bronze medalist (15.783 points).

The Ukrainian team took the eighth place in the team all-around of the Olympics-2016. The Ukrainian team competed in reduced strength in four out of six exercises due to Semiankiv's injury.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has already congratulated the Olympic champion: "Oleh Verniaiev wins the gold medal! What a splendid result! We are proud of you, Oleh. Please, take our sincere congratulations on the victory!"
