Poland has placed six border crossings with Ukraine on high alert
Six Polish border crossing points on the border with Ukraine have been placed on high alert. Polish army personnel will also be on duty at these locations.
According to Censor.NET, this was stated by Poland’s Minister of the Interior and Administration, Marcin Kierwiński, and Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, during a press conference at the Dorohusk border crossing, as reported by Ukrinform.
Polish military personnel have appeared at the border crossing points
Enhanced security measures have been introduced at the border crossing points in Dorohusk, Zosyn, Budomierz, Korchova, Medytsia and Kroscenko.
Members of the Polish Armed Forces will also be present at these locations. According to Kierwiński, it took less than 24 hours to train the military personnel and switch the border crossing points to the new operating regime.
The military set up checkpoints in accordance with the Border Guard Service’s recommendations. The minister described this as an example of inter-agency cooperation.
Restrictions have been imposed on the number of people and vehicles at the border
Procedures have been introduced at six border crossing points to limit the number of people and vehicles that may be on their premises at any one time.
In the event of a threat, this should enable people to be evacuated more quickly. Shelters have also been designated at border crossing points. Where additional structures are required, plans are in place to construct them as a matter of urgency.
The Polish Ministry of the Interior has pointed out that, two years ago, the Polish government classified the border crossing points with Ukraine as critical infrastructure. According to the ministry, this expands the services’ capacity to respond to various incidents.
Kierwiński also stated that the Polish Border Guard and the army are working closely together to ensure border security. He emphasised the importance of border crossing points for logistics and transport routes in Poland and Europe.
According to him, despite recent incidents involving Russian drones near the Polish border, the area remains safe.
