"Whilst Russia has reached an impasse on the front line, it stubbornly rejects all calls for a ceasefire and irresponsibly chooses to intensify its attacks on infrastructure and civilian targets, in breach of the most fundamental principles of international humanitarian law," Macron emphasised.

He gave assurances that France and Europe would continue to fulfil their commitments to support Ukraine and explore every possible avenue to protect the civilian population, de-escalate hostilities and promote the idea of a just and lasting peace.

"Together with President Zelenskyy, we discussed in detail the specific support we can provide to help Ukraine intercept drones and repel Russian aggression.

"We will not give in to either intimidation or escalation on the part of Russia, which must make no mistake: time is working against it," Macron concluded.
