India proposes three-stage truce plan to Ukraine and Russia – media

India’s truce proposal covers energy, grain and Black Sea shipping

India’s truce plan to resolve Russia’s war against Ukraine comprises three stages. In addition to the Black Sea issue, it includes a halt to strikes on other infrastructure facilities.

This was reported by Hindustan Times, citing informed sources, according to Censor.NET.

What is known?

According to the outlet’s sources, the plan covers an end to strikes on energy facilities and other infrastructure, unhindered transportation of grain and energy commodities through Black Sea ports, and an end to attacks on commercial shipping.

The outlet notes that India’s proposal is broader than those of Egypt and Türkiye, which reportedly focused on ensuring unhindered grain exports from the Black Sea by ending attacks on commercial shipping, and that of the United States, which primarily discussed an "energy truce".

Background

  • It was previously reported that Türkiye had said it had sent Ukraine and Russia a proposal concerning de-escalation in the Black Sea and a grain deal.
  • Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha had also previously described India’s plan as "the broadest". He also confirmed that Türkiye and Egypt had proposed a "grain corridor", while the United States had proposed an energy truce, which was discussed during the meeting between Presidents Zelenskyy and Trump.
