Ukraine is ready to guarantee energy truce, but US pressure on Russia is needed, - Zelenskyy

Zelenskyy

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has stated that Moscow is not complying with the terms of the energy ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump, and that attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure are continuing.

The president wrote about this on his social media accounts, according to Censor.NET.

Report by the negotiating team

Zelenskyy said that he had heard a report from the negotiating team following meetings in the US and based on daily communication with the US President’s team. According to him, Ukraine is ready for concrete decisions and de-escalation measures that will bring the war to an end.

Ukraine’s position

The President noted that Ukraine had supported the energy ceasefire.

"The position is absolutely clear: Ukraine is ready to guarantee an energy ceasefire, as announced by the US President, and Russia must take the necessary steps," he remarked.

According to Zelenskyy, as things stand, there is no evidence that Russia is complying with the conditions set out by the US President. He said that attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure have continued yesterday and today. Air raid sirens sounded throughout the day in Ukraine, with the Russians using ‘Shahed’ drones and aerial bombs.

"If the strikes are Russia’s response to the US President’s statement, then this means that the Russians have squandered yet another opportunity to bring peace closer", he said.

"We need to put pressure on Russia"

Zelenskyy emphasised that much depends on the US stance for the de-escalation to work. According to him, pressure needs to be brought to bear on Russia.

  • The President stated that Ukraine continues to hold talks with the US at all levels and has also set out the next steps and the diplomatic framework. He did not provide any further details.
