Ukraine and NATO develop AI for drone warnings and artillery planning

Ukraine and NATO have developed two artificial intelligence models for military tasks. One predicts Russian drone attacks, while the other helps plan artillery operations.

According to Censor.NET, this was announced in a Telegram statement by Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense.

Model No. 13 predicts enemy drone attacks

The first model analyzes historical data, weather conditions and the current situation. Based on this information, it predicts the intensity of drone use, likely attack areas, strike timing and drone types.

The model has already been tested on real-world datasets. It is ready for integration into the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ situational awareness systems.

Model No. 32 helps plan artillery operations

The second model is designed to plan artillery operations. It takes into account available weapons, ammunition, firing positions, logistics, ballistics and other constraints.

The system selects possible courses of action and helps identify the most appropriate ones.

"AI rules out infeasible options, evaluates feasible ones and ranks them. The prototype has already been handed over to Ukrainian customers for testing and validation," the Defense Ministry said.

Both models were developed by NATO Allied Command Transformation and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, with the participation and support of the NATO–Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC).
