"I don’t miss Berlin Wall": Meloni explained why Italy should support Ukraine

The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, has stated that Ukraine’s surrender will not bring peace, but will instead mean the conquest of a European state and the return of Soviet-style imperialism.
According to Censor.NET, citing "European Truth", she made these remarks in a speech in parliament ahead of this week’s EU leaders’ summit.
Support for Ukraine brings peace closer
Meloni noted that support for Ukraine is not an alternative to peace; on the contrary, it is what brings that peace closer.
"Surrender is not peace; it is conquest. If Ukraine were to stop defending itself tomorrow, as many hope or suggest, we would not achieve peace. We would be discussing the occupation of a European country and the return of Soviet-style imperialism, which Europe experienced for half a century," said the Italian Prime Minister.
I don’t miss Russian tanks
She added that she "does not miss" those years when European countries were suffering under Soviet rule.
"I do not miss the Russian tanks that crushed the uprisings in Prague and Budapest, nor do I miss the Berlin Wall. And no one will convince me that the capitulation of those defending their freedom can be called peace. The peace we strive for and are working to build, even at the cost of losing consensus, is a just peace," Meloni said.
Only a just peace, she added, can be lasting and guarantee the security of Europe and Italian interests.
Meloni also stated in her speech that the US agreement with Russia on the supply of diesel fuel is a very risky decision.
The Italian Prime Minister also believes that Putin is resorting to provocations in Europe to divert attention from the situation on the battlefield.
