Lithuania has frozen assets of Russian oligarchs Fridman and Usmanov following their removal from EU sanctions list

Usmanov, Fridman

On 14 October, Lithuania froze the assets of Russian oligarchs Mikhail Fridman and Alisher Usmanov under its national sanctions regime. The decision was taken following their removal from the European Union sanctions lists.

This has been reported by Censor.NET, citing a statement by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budris on the social media platform X.

According to the Lithuanian Foreign Minister, the removal of Fridman and Usmanov from the EU sanctions list sent the wrong signal against the backdrop of Russian aggression against Ukraine.

"Lithuania is taking action and will not turn a blind eye to this. Today we have frozen the assets of Mikhail Fridman and Alisher Usmanov under our national sanctions regime," said Budrys.

The Minister emphasised that the pressure exerted through sanctions on Russia and those who are aiding its war efforts must not only be maintained but also stepped up.

In his view, restrictive measures should be applied consistently so as not to ease the pressure on Russia.

Lithuania has therefore decided to impose its own sanctions on two Russian oligarchs, irrespective of any decision taken at EU level.
