Germany demands removal of Starlink restrictions for Ukraine: we are paying for service, and it must work, - Wadephul

Wadephul criticized Starlink restrictions in Ukraine and mentioned Berlin’s questions to the US.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul called for the lifting of speed restrictions on Starlink satellite communications in Ukraine. He emphasized that Berlin is funding part of this technology and insists that it operate at full capacity.

According to Censor.NET, Wadeful stated this during an appearance on the German television channel ntv.

According to the German foreign minister, the restrictions on satellite communications must be lifted, as Ukraine must receive all the support it has been promised.

"Part of the Starlink technology in Ukraine is funded by Germany, and so we naturally insist that it work, since we're paying for it," Wadephul said.

At the same time, the minister acknowledged that Berlin does not yet have complete information about the reasons for the restrictions that have been imposed.

According to him, Germany has raised questions with the United States, which the German side intends to clarify.

"Ukraine must receive all the support that was promised to it," the foreign minister emphasized.

Separately, Reuters reported that the directive restricting the use of the Starshield satellite system—which Ukraine uses for battlefield communications and drone control—came from the White House.

At the same time, Starlink and Starshield are not the same systems: Starshield is a specialized solution for government and defense needs. Therefore, reports of restrictions on Starshield should not automatically be equated with restrictions on all Starlink terminals in Ukraine.
