Group drone control: new technology already operating on front line – Ministry of Defense. VIDEO

Drone Industry

Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense and the Brave1 defense innovation cluster are working to scale up technology for group control of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The Ministry of Defense reported this, according to Censor.NET.

As noted, this technology, multi-drone control, is already helping deliver supplies more efficiently on the front line.

What is group drone control?

Group drone control involves aircraft taking off one after another and heading to a designated point without GPS. This allows them to remain immune to enemy electronic warfare (EW) systems.

How it works technically:

  • The operator specifies an area on the map, and the system automatically calculates routes for the entire group, preventing collisions;
  • The drones fly autonomously without GPS and maintain their bearings under electronic warfare interference thanks to secure communications.

All aircraft are displayed in a single control interface. The operator switches between them with one click and takes manual control only during the final minutes of a mission.

Group UAV control and front-line logistics

The Ministry of Defense said that personnel of the 108th Separate Assault Battalion "Da Vinci Wolves" of the 59th Separate Unmanned Systems Assault Brigade named after Yakiv Handziuk were among the first to systematically switch their logistics missions to group control.

The use of this technology is already delivering results for the unit. Over the course of a month, it helped double the number of deliveries.
