Tillerson backs lethal aid to Ukraine: "I would support that"

He stated during the first confirmation hearings in the Senate, Censor.NET reports citing C-Span.

Asked whether he supported helping Ukraine with lethal arms in response to the continued aggressive actions by Russia, Tillerson said: "It is important that we should support the Ukrainians in all ways to protect themselves from any further expansion or aggression. I'm hopeful the cease-fires will hold. But in the absence of that, I think it's important for us to support them in their ability to defend themselves."

He added such a decision required consultation through the National Security Council and input of others.

"But I would support that," he stressed.
