Rada bans screened officials from taking local government posts
The Ukrainian parliament has banned civil servants falling under the law on the cleansing of the ranks of power from holding posts in local government.
The amended law on local self-government service has been supported by 253 deputies, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainski Novyny.
Working in local government is also prohibited for those who have not undergone a special check. The law provides for a competitive selection of local government employees.
It also introduces three categories of local public servants: category I will be in charge of the executive committees of local councils; category II is to manage structural subdivisions of local councils; category III encompasses all other positions.
The employees of the first category are exempt of the right to be members of political parties.
All the categories of local civil servants may not participate in any election campaign, unless they run for president, MP or local council deputy.
