Ukrainian parliament considers bill to ban elective abortions
As reported by Censor.NET citing Interfax-Ukraine, the draft No. 6239 was registered in the Verkhovna Rada on March 27, 2017. The text was published on the official Rada website two days later.
The legislator offers to terminate the norm of the Civil Code of Ukraine providing for making abortions to women at their choice prior to 12-week term.
The MP offers to allow abortions only under legally prescribed circumstances prior to 22-week term.
The bill stipulates for abortions to be made in healthcare facilities if a pregnancy poses a threat for a woman, in cases of pathology that will lead to a child's death after birth, and if a woman has been impregnated in a rape.
Earlier, protesters gathered at Polish Embassy in Kyiv to support demonstrations in Poland that opposed the abortion ban.
