Russia's agent recruited Ukrainian migrant workers for fake rallies, - SBU

The Security Service of Ukraine has launched a special pre-trial investigation against a Russian citizen charged with recruiting migrant workers hailing from Ukraine's Zakarpattia region.

"It has been found that in Moscow, under the guise of an NGO, Russian secret services recruited residents of the Zakarpattia region. During 'seminars' and 'conferences,' Russian curators gave a number of tasks to the residents of the region, in particular agitating for the autonomization of the Zakarpattia region. The Security Service has documented certain unlawful activities of one of the NGO leaders and a former Russian secret agent," the message says.

"In 2015, he recruited several residents of the Zakarpattia region who were paid to participate in road blocking, holding protests against mobilization and rallies in support of the autonomization of the region and creation of a fake republic Pidkarpatska Rus (Subcarpathian Ruthenia). The SBU has established one of the curators gave instructions to agents on the ground, containing detailed information on staging protests necessary for the Kremlin, including a venue, the number of people, slogans and demands," the press service adds.

The suspected Russian citizen has been declared wanted. A special pre-trial investigation has been launched.
