Interpol denies Russia’s request to arrest former Ukraine’s PM Yatseniuk

Interpol officially denied motion to put former Prime Minister of Ukraine Arsenii Yatseniuk on an international wanted list.

As reported by Censor.NET, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov wrote on Twitter.

"On May 3, Interpol officially denied Russia's request to issue an international arrest warrant for Arsenii under absurd charges. The provocation of Russian secret services was foiled," he said.

Earlier, the media reported on Interpol's refusal to put Yatseniuk on an international wanted list on April 29.

Minister Avakov also cited the "background of the case":

"Russian law enforcement agencies allegedly issued an arrest warrant for Arsenii Yatseniuk under following charges brought against him (I quote): "membership in an armed gang, pre-meditated murder of two or more people committed by a group of persons, and attempted pre-meditated murder of two or more people committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy."

"The request of the Russian Federation to Interpol is based on the arrest warrant for Yatseniuk, allegedly issued by Essentuki city court (the Stavropol Territory) on March 3, 2017. According to the document, the Russian investigators suspect Mr. Yatseniuk of (attention!) killing 30 and wounding 13 Russian servicemen using Kalashnikov assault rifle during military operations in Grozny, the Chechen Republic.

"These events allegedly took place when Yatseniuk was a member of "Mriya armed gang" which "conducted attacks on Russian servicemen" in the Presidential Court, Minutka Square and Grozny railroad station between Dec. 31, 1994 and Jan. 2, 1995.

"They charge Arsenii with murder of 30 persons and inflicting injuries to 13 over three days!" the minister wrote.
