Dual approach needed in relations with Russia, - Merkel
The German chancellor considers the reinforcement of NATO's eastern borders to be correct but at the same time advocates preserving contacts with Russia.
Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform quoting Angela Merkel's remarks regarding the upcoming NATO summit.
According to the chancellor, NATO has really strengthened its eastern and southern edges. The alliance reacted to the new security situation after Crimea was annexed and fighting broke out in Ukraine's east, which, Merkel said, had raised concerns of the Baltic countries and Poland.
As for relations with Russia, the chancellor believes a dual approach is necessary: "on the one hand, showing strength, but on the other hand, demonstrating the readiness for a dialogue." Merkel said it was important for her not to let the negotiation process with Russia break off.
