Protests near Rada: Police Chief says National Guard's property stolen

National Police says property of the National Guard was stolen during the mass protest near the Rada building on Oct. 17.

This was announced by head of the National Police Serhii Kniaziev on a briefing on Tuesday, Censor.NET reports citing Liga.

"We see that we have a fact of robbery," he said.

"Today, we have filed a criminal violation on the fact of stealing the property of the National Guard into the Unified Registry of Offenses," Kniaziev said.

The police chief noted that each case will be legally qualified and investigated.

Novoye Vremya journalist Kristina Berdynskykh wrote on Facebook that the stolen property is shields of the National Guard taken away by protesters.

"The protesters took away National Guard shields hidden behind a bus," she wrote.



As reported, a protest with a request to hold a political reform in Ukraine is being held Oct. 17 at Verkhovna Rada building in Kyiv. Organizers of the protest say the key demands are to change the system of election in Ukraine, including a shift to proportional election system with open candidates list, restriction of political advertising on TV, creation of anti-corruption court, and restriction of parliamentary immunity.

Former Odesa governor Mikheil Saakashvili said that if the MPs do not fulfill the protesters' demands on Oct. 17, some of them might stay at the Rada building for indefinite protest. SBU reported earlier it had prevented a possible provocation during Oct. 17 mass events in Kyiv.
