Probe into fire at Kalynivka ammunition depot: military police officer fined 2,465 hryvnia for negligence

Censor.NET reports referring to the press service of the Military Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine's central part.

The officer is charged with granting unknown individuals unauthorized access to the ammunition depot which constitutes an administrative offense under Part 2 of Article 172-15 of the Administrative Offenses Code of Ukraine (negligence of military service).

"It was established that the mentioned senior officer violated military regulations by inappropriately performing his duty on Sept. 26, 2017. Being a military official, the serviceman was in charge of monitoring the personnel and equipment admission to the territory of the military unit. The negligence allowed private firm employees to bring banned flammable substances and items into the territory of the military base where ammunition for tank guns was stored in particular," the statement reads.

On Nov. 10, 2017, Kalynivka district court of Vinnytsia region brought the officer to administrative responsibility and ruled to impose a 2,465 hryvnia fine on him.

As reported, on Sept. 26 at around 10 p.m., State Emergency Service was reported of ammunition explosions in the military depot of the Defense Ministry in Kalynivka village. A Censor.NET source said that the explosions were heard in the village, and ammo was seen flying over the depot. The Kalynivka depot is more than 1,000 ha and packed with ammunition of various types.

As of 10 a.m. Sept. 27, more than 30,000 people have been evacuated. For that purpose, 50 buses, 10 ambulances, and Emergency Service psychologists were involved. Two people were traumatized and taken to hospitals.
