Alexei Navalny was detained by the police near The Ritz-Carlton hotel on Tverskaya Street in Moscow on Tuesday evening, Dec. 30.
Earlier, Navalny stated on his Twitter account that he decided to violate the terms of his house arrest and was coming to the city center by subway, Censor.NET reports citing Russian TV Channel Dozhd.
Later, the Federal Penitentiary Service alleged violations by Navalny of the house arrest. The Office reported the incident to the court.
There are extra law enforcement officers pulled in the center of Moscow on the evening of Dec. 30. The South part of Okhotny Ryad subway station has been closed off since 6:00 p.m. Moscow time. Manezhaia Square is also closed.
