In Russia, a fire in the village of Sosva, Sverdlovsk region, damaged more than 90 buildings, including a penal colony. One person was killed.

"The rapid spread of the fire was facilitated by a large amount of dry vegetation, wind gusts of up to 20 meters per second, and the removal of water sources," the statement said.

According to the Russian Emergencies Ministry, the rapid spread of the fire is facilitated by a large amount of dry vegetation, strong winds, and the removal of water sources.

"Firefighters laid main lines from the Sosva River with a total length of 2 km to supply water to the fire site," the agency said.

240 convicts were evacuated from the penal institution located in Sosva. The colony building itself was completely destroyed by fire.
