Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin held a meeting in Kherson with representatives of law enforcement agencies to discuss the investigation into the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant.
He stated this in Facebook, reports Censor.NЕТ.
"In Kherson. We are documenting the consequences of the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, a war crime committed by Russia. The scale is catastrophic. Tens of thousands of people were injured. On the Ukrainian-controlled right bank of the Dnipro River alone, 58,000 civilians were flooded. The situation is even worse on the temporarily occupied left bank.
I held a meeting with the leadership of the specialized units of the Prosecutor General's Office, regional prosecutor's offices, the leadership of the central office and regional departments of the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police. We identified priorities: investigating a war crime - an attack on a facility protected by the Geneva Conventions - and ecocide.
Now all Ukraine's efforts are aimed at saving people. But while Ukraine is saving, Russia continues to kill. Today, another shelling of the evacuation site in Kherson. Two volunteers were wounded.
Terror against civilians is the aggressor's strategy. There is no doubt who is responsible for the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant disaster: it is Russia.
We are open to cooperation with international partners to ensure the most transparent investigation and trial.
Today we are working at the crime scene together with representatives of the International Criminal Court. Our colleagues have arrived in Kherson region to prepare for the investigation into the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant explosion. They will see everything with their own eyes and draw their own conclusions. The world needs to know the whole truth about the horrific crimes that Russia is committing in Ukraine," Kostin said.
