US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has arrived in Beijing and is scheduled to meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang on Sunday.
This was reported by Bloomberg, Censor.NET informs.
"According to a senior State Department official who briefed reporters in Tokyo en route to China, this was to be followed by a smaller meeting and then dinner. Blinken may also meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping and address a press conference before leaving," the website said.
It is noted that Blinken is the most senior US official to visit China in the last five years.
The main purpose of the secretary of state's visit is to try to re-establish high-level channels of communication with Chinese counterparts, including between the US and Chinese militaries, to cope with the fierce competition between the two countries, a senior official said.
