International Atomic Energy Agency experts have completed a week-long mission to support and assist in the safety and security of radiation sources in Ukraine.

According to Censor.NET, this was reported by the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate.

"On 31 July 2023, the SNRIU held a final meeting on the results of the IAEA mission to support and assist in the safety and security of ionising radiation sources (IRS) in Ukraine, which lasted from 25 July 2023," the statement said.

The event was attended by representatives of the SNRIU, the IAEA and companies whose activities are related to the use of ionising radiation sources (IRS) and radioactive waste management in the form of spent IRS.

It is noted that such a mission took place in Ukraine for the first time. During the week of work, IAEA experts visited a number of Ukrainian enterprises, including the Radon Association, the National Cancer Institute, the State Enterprise Isotope, and the National Research Centre Institute of Metrology.

"The IAEA representatives talked to the management and staff of the enterprises and had the opportunity to make sure that all these enterprises were affected by the war: from the risks and threats of shelling by the occupiers to the disruption of logistics chains," the SNRIU said.

Based on the results of the work, the IAEA experts will prepare a detailed technical report, which will identify technical assistance for each of the visited enterprises.
