The SBU CI detained another member of the FSB agent network, which was preparing an attempt on 9 May this year to attack the Command of the Defence Forces in Zaporizzhya region.
This was reported by the press centre of the SBU, Censor.NET informs.
"On the eve of this day, the SBU detained two organisers of the hostile group. Later, their accomplice was exposed as hiding weapons and ammunition in his apartment under the bed of his 6-year-old daughter.
Currently, the Ukrainian special service has tracked down the fourth member of the FSB agent network with the call sign "Phantom". After a series of detentions of his accomplices, he "went into hiding" and thus tried to avoid punishment," the statement said.
According to the investigation, the defendant was a resident of the regional centre, a former military man who had skills in shooting with a silenced sniper rifle "Vintorez". This weapon is manufactured in Russia and is used primarily by the aggressor country's special forces.
According to available information, it was with this rifle that the "Phantom" was supposed to have attempted to assassinate the command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces combat units fighting on the southern frontline.
After neutralising the other members of the agent group, an FSB representative later re-entered the Phantom. During the communication session, he set a new task for his agent - to adjust the enemy attack on the frontline positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces using Russian flamethrower systems "Solntsepek".
To collect intelligence on the locations of Ukrainian defenders, the defendant tried to use his acquaintances from the frontline areas of the region in the dark.
As a result of a multi-stage special operation, SBU officers detained a Russian agent and prevented an enemy attack on the frontline units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During searches at the detainee's residence, SBU officers seized over half a thousand rounds of ammunition of various calibres, including 308 win cartridges for sniper rifle shooting.
Based on the collected evidence, the offender is to be served a notice of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The offender faces life imprisonment.
