A Russian agent was detained in the frontline areas of Donetsk region who was trying to gather intelligence on the Defence Forces.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the SBU press service.
Thus, the man collected intelligence for the Russians about the locations of the Defence Forces in Sloviansk, Lyman and the surrounding villages.
"While travelling around the area, he tried to identify and record the locations of checkpoints, fortifications and strongholds of Ukrainian troops. The occupiers needed the intelligence to plan new and adjusted repeated strikes on the region using rocket artillery, attack drones and guided bombs," the statement said.
The SBU established the location of the Russian informant and detained him. The SBU seized a mobile phone from the offender, which he used in reconnaissance and subversive activities in favour of Russia.
The racists were assisted by a local resident who was remotely recruited by the Russians through his "contact" in October 2023.
The detainee was served a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorised dissemination of information on the movement, relocation or deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine committed under martial law).
He is currently in custody. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime. The offender faces up to 8 years in prison.
