It is noted that on the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, journalists analysed court statistics and found that combatants who returned from the front were involved in the murder of at least 240 people in different regions of the Russian Federation.
The study covers sentences under five articles of the Criminal Code related to homicide passed between 2022 and 2025. However, given that some cases are still under review and detailed data is not available for a number of verdicts, the actual number of victims may be higher.
How many sentences have been passed?
According to the study, Russian courts have handed down 225 verdicts in cases of murder committed by former combatants in Ukraine.

Who are the victims of war participants?
The victims of these crimes are not only relatives or acquaintances of former military personnel, but also random people: children, pensioners, and passers-by.
