Russia is building new Russian navy flagship in occupied Crimea - Newsweek. PHOTO

At the "Zaliv" shipyard in Kerch, Russia is building the largest amphibious assault ship, the Ivan Rogov. This vessel is significantly superior to the "Moskva" missile cruiser.

According to Censor.NET, Newsweek and Defence Express wrote about this.

Recently published satellite images show active construction of one of the two planned Project 23900 ships. The new Ivan Rogov-class vessel is much larger in size, indicating Russia's desire to restore its maritime reputation. The ship will be able to accommodate up to 900 marines, carry 75 pieces of military equipment, three small amphibious assault craft, and 15 helicopters.

However, the work has been delayed. The "Ivan Rogov" was laid down in July 2020, but as of 2024, the construction pace is behind the original schedule. Analysis of satellite images shows that the ship will be about 220 metres long and about 40 metres wide.

The first sea trials have been postponed until 2027, although they were planned for 2025.

As a reminder, the cruiser "Moskva", the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, was sunk in mid-April 2022. According to the Ukrainian military, the ship was hit by two "Neptune" anti-ship missiles.
