The SSU Military Counterintelligence, with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, detained a Russian "double" agent in Lviv region who was simultaneously working for the FSB and Russian military intelligence.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the SSU press centre.
According to the case file, the enemy accomplice was an instructor at the Yavoriv training ground.
Agent planned to kill Ukrainian military
His task from the Russian gru was to prepare terrorist attacks against the commanders of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, who, together with their units, were undergoing combat training at the local training centre of the Defence Forces.
It is documented that the agent received carte blanche from the curator to choose the method of liquidation of the Ukrainian military.
"For example, according to one of the 'scenarios', the traitor was supposed to make an improvised explosive device (IED) and then covertly plant it in the headquarters or a training building.
The agent was also developing a variant of using his colleague in the dark, who was supposed to bring camouflaged explosives to the training location of the commanders," the statement said.
Another way of killing that the mole considered was a missile strike by the ruscists at the coordinates of the current concentration of Ukrainian defenders at the training ground.
Exposing a Russian agent
As noted, the SSU military counterintelligence exposed hostile intentions in advance, documented them and detained the traitor when he was preparing proposals for liquidation for his curator.
The investigation also revealed the traitor's contacts with an FSB supervisor. On his instructions, the agent collected information about the number and specifics of the units training at the Yavoriv training ground.
During the searches, three phones with SIM cards were seized from the detainee, which he used to hide his contacts with the occupiers.
Suspicion of a traitor
Based on the evidence collected, the SSU investigators served him a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).
The offender is in custody without the right to be released on bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
