Veterans policy should become key state priority in coming years, - Zaluzhnyi
Veterans are a large and motivated part of our society. Their numbers, as well as their potential, will only grow in the future.
This was noted by the Ambassador to the United Kingdom, former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi during the forum "Veterans as a new political entity: rules of interaction for post-war Ukraine," reports Censor.NET.
According to him, they are potentially the main asset of our state.
"With a well-thought-out state approach, veterans can become the driving force behind Ukraine's post-war economic growth and the foundation of a new elite that will care for the future of our country. They must be the main guarantee of security for Ukraine in the coming decades. All defence capabilities must be built on their experience and with their direct participation," Zaluzhnyi noted.
At the same time, it is clear that the end of the war and the prospect of the return of about a million of our defenders home and their transition to veteran status will be a new challenge for the state, civil society, and the veterans themselves.
That is why, as he notes, the state must develop a sensible approach to solving these problems, and it is important for the population to maintain unity.
"Therefore, veteran policy should become one of the key state priorities in the coming years. Ukraine has limited time to move towards a strategic policy of reintegrating veterans. This requires not only money, but also strong organisational resources, effective communication, political will and a systematic approach to working with veterans," the former head concludes.
