Fraudsters sold non-existent quadcopters and cars to service members: suspects charged in Sumy region. PHOTOS
In the Sumy region, law enforcement officers exposed a group of fraudsters who sold non-existent quadcopters and vehicles allegedly for the military. Over nine months, the perpetrators defrauded six people, causing losses of more than half a million hryvnias.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Under the procedural supervision of the Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office, on 18 March 2026, two men were served with notices of suspicion for misappropriation of funds by deception (Parts 1, 2, 3 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
What the investigation found
According to the investigation, a 41-year-old resident of the region organised an illegal enrichment scheme and involved two acquaintances. He coordinated the activities and communicated with clients. One accomplice posted online advertisements for the sale of non-existent quadcopters and vehicles for the military, while the other opened bank accounts and handled issues related to their blocking in case of complaints.
The funds received from victims were immediately converted by the organiser into cryptocurrency and transferred to electronic wallets.
How the fraudsters operated
Over a period of nine months, the suspects defrauded six individuals, including two service members. One of them transferred money for a purported DJI Mavic quadcopter, while another paid an advance for the transportation of a non-existent vehicle and the processing of documents.
The total amount of damage exceeds UAH 591,000.
Currently, the issue of selecting preventive measures for the suspects is being decided. Materials regarding the third participant have been separated into a distinct proceeding.
