"Dead souls" and exemptions from mobilisation: new suspicions announced against national park head in Mykolaiv region. PHOTOS

Officers of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) have uncovered new facts of unlawful activity by the head of the Biloberezhzhia Sviatoslava National Nature Park in Mykolaiv region and served him with additional notices of suspicion.

Earlier, the SBI exposed the official over a kickback scheme involving employee bonuses. Starting in 2022, the director, together with his deputy and the chief accountant, had been taking part of staff bonuses every month, Censor.NET reports.

Over two years, they illegally obtained nearly UAH 3 million. The indictments have already been sent to court.

During the subsequent investigation, detectives uncovered new episodes.

In particular, the head organised fictitious employment for men seeking deferment from mobilization. Three "employees" were formally listed on staff but in fact performed no work.

In addition, the official used another scheme: he hired an acquaintance who did not need exemption , but who regularly handed over part of his salary to the head. Over more than a year, he was groundlessly paid nearly half a million hryvnias.

The suspect has now been dismissed from his post.

The suspect has been notified of suspicion of:

  • obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations during a special period (Part 1, Article 114-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine);
  • misappropriation and embezzlement of another person’s property through abuse of office (Part 4, Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The articles carry a penalty of up to eight years in prison.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
