On the occasion of National Flag Day, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasised that he is with us during all the most important moments in the life of independent Ukraine.
This is stated in the President’s address, as reported by Censor.NET.
A Ukrainian symbol
"Today is an important day – the day of our important Ukrainian symbol, our true talisman, a day of very strong emotion. It is the warmth you feel when you are at home or when, in any corner of the world, you recognise your own people and what is yours – you recognise them by two colours: the Ukrainian heart and soul, to which this very day is dedicated – Ukraine’s National Flag Day," the President noted.
He added that on these solemn days, on the eve of the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Ukraine’s independence, many of our friends are here with us: numerous international partners, distinguished and honourable guests.
"And today, at this ceremony, there is another, very special ‘guest’. It witnessed and played a part in that momentous day – 24 August 1991. It is that very historic flag, now known as the Flag of Independence, which was carried into our parliament in the very first moments after Ukraine regained its independence. And this is not merely a symbolic gesture or a nice gesture. It is about the ability of Ukrainians to preserve and not to be afraid," said Zelenskyy.
A source of strength and spirit
He emphasised that our national flag – our blue-and-yellow source of strength and spirit – is with us now and will always be with us.
"At all the most important moments in the life of independent Ukraine: in times of hardship and joy, in moments of happiness and pain, in battles on the front line, in captivity, under temporary occupation, and at a time when Ukraine is reclaiming what is hers, when our people in the liberated towns and villages welcome back their soldiers – with words of gratitude, with eyes brimming with tears of joy, and with this very flag of ours. It is with us in every moment of Ukraine’s victories. May the greatest of these be the victory of peace on our land!
Glory to all who defend our national flag! Eternal memory to all who did so at the cost of their lives. Honour and respect to the Ukrainian armed forces and to our entire nation!" – added the President.
