To counter Russian attacks, it is necessary to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence, in particular its defences against ballistic missiles.
According to Censor.NET, this was stated by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"Since last night, efforts have been underway to deal with the aftermath of the Russian attack on our regions. It was a combined strike: drones and ballistic missiles. The Russians struck critical infrastructure in the Poltava, Sumy and Kherson regions," the statement reads.
Zelenskyy noted that the enemy struck residential buildings in the Kharkiv region. In Kramatorsk, a cruise missile struck a high-rise block. State Emergency Service units managed to rescue four people. Three people were injured in Zaporizhzhia, and two in Kryvyi Rih. A high-rise residential block in Odesa was also struck. In Chubynske, Kyiv Oblast, all necessary services have been mobilised to extinguish fires at industrial sites following a drone strike.
Zelenskyy called for air defence to be strengthened via PURL
The President emphasised that Russia continues to invest in missiles and the expansion of its war, and therefore more must be done to counter this.
"This week, our European allies have taken important decisions to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence. It is vital that these are supplemented by additional ballistic defence packages, primarily via PURL. Anything that strengthens our air defences effectively saves the lives of Ukrainian men and women every day. To dampen Russia’s desire to continue the war, we need to effectively shoot down the missiles that Moscow is so desperate to use to keep the war going. I am grateful to everyone who understands this and is helping," Zelenskyy added.
