At today's meeting, 226 members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved the bill No. 4255 on granting pardon in 2016, which took into account proposals put forward by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
As reported by Censor.NET, this was said in a statement by the Verkhovna Rada press office."We have passed the amnesty act for 2016 taking into account the president's proposals," the statement reads.

According to the explanatory note, this law will reduce the number of inmates sentenced for minor crimes, improve the detention conditions and decrease the country's penal expenditures.
It is also noted that the past years' amnesty experience shows that it gives no boost to organized crime while granting pardon will promote application of humanist principles in society and will be recognized as an act of humanity.
