From the very start of the war, the National Guard has always been ahead in all the major battles.
Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said today, Dec. 27, summing up the National Guard's yearly results, Censor.NET reports referring to the ministry press service. The event held in the territory of the military unit 3027 in Novi Petrivtsi village was attended by NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov and National Guard Commander Yurii Allerov.
Avakov said the National Guard has significantly built up its combat capacity.
"I think it has increased by 800 percent in terms of equipment, weapons and training. During the last three years, we have been given a budget of development, which is fundamentally important," the minister said.
He reminded that National Guard units are deployed to the second line of defense, where they deal with one of the most difficult tasks - resisting sabotage and reconnaissance groups of the enemy.
The tasks of the National Guard are much broader than those of any army unit as it has to fight terrorism within the country, Avakov stressed.
