Former prisoner of war received an honorary award from the president of Ukraine.

Petro Poroshenko awarded the Hero of Ukraine title to Volodymyr Zhemchuhov, Censor.NET reports citing the president's Facebook.

"The son of Ukrainian land born in the Luhansk region, he actively participated in resistance to the Russian occupation,'' Poroshenko wrote.

''He executed 30 special operations to destroy the military facilities and the personnel of the occupying troops. When the enemy tried to capture him, Volodymyr Pavlovych decided to blow himself up. He was seriously injured," the president wrote.
