Ukrainian defender Mykhailo Kalashnyk, whose video conversation with his mother was published by Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, hails from Vinnytsia. He spent a year in Russian captivity.

Returning to the Motherland, the soldier immediately called his mother. In the video, the man is crying because he heard his mother's voice for the first time in a year.
"Mom, hello dear! I'm in Ukraine, mom!" - says the defender.
The head of the Vinnytsia Regional Council, Vyacheslav Sokolovy, said that Mykhailo Kalashnyk comes from the Orativ community. He was reported missing on April 9, 2022. However, it later became known that he was captured while performing a combat mission in Donetsk region.
On April 10, 2023, he was returned from captivity to the Motherland. Also, Sokolovy added, a surprise was waiting for the defender at home in Vinnytsia - on April 9, his niece was born.
The head of the Orativ community, Halyna Loshak, said: "Immense joy and happiness fill my heart! I don't know the official details yet, but our Mykhailo (our Mishka) Kalashnyk has returned from captivity. Now I know how I will rejoice at our Victory!"
