"The time has come to officially announce a new stage of development of our Azov unit - SOF AZOV is expanding, changing its name, and will continue to beat the enemy already as a brigade. Our combat path began with a volunteer unit of territorial defense on February 24, 2022, created by veterans of the unit of the Azov regiment and representatives Azov movement.
From the first hours of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army, TRO AZOV defended the country, protecting Kyiv and the Kyiv region. Already in the spring, the unit was reformatted, and as SOF AZOV we destroyed the enemy in the Zaporizhzhia direction, liberated Kherson, and hardened ourselves in fierce battles in the Donetsk region. In the bloody war with which the enemy came to our land, we are constantly improving our military skills and professionalism. At the same time, we are constantly growing in number, accepting and training highly motivated fighters in our ranks, ready for the difficult struggle for the independence of Ukraine.
So today we officially announce that the SOF AZOV is expanding to a brigade. From now on, we are the 3rd separate assault brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Our renewed banners symbolize the endurance of the traditions of Ukrainian statehood: from princely times, the age of the Cossacks, the first liberation struggles to the present day. Our strength lies in highly motivated and ideological fighters, our strength lies in the fact that the unit was created on the same basis as the most effective combat unit of the defense forces of Ukraine - the Azov Special Operations Command, which showed steel resistance during the defense of Mariupol," the regiment said.
At the same time, the founder and first commander of the "Azov" regiment, Colonel of the National Guard of Ukraine Andrii Biletsky reported: "The "Azov" SOF regiment is now the Third Separate Assault Brigade as part of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Our combat path begins from the most difficult direction - on Bakhmut."
